Current CDR pledges in the G20 total 214–265 MtCO₂ by 2030, a small increase on today’s ~2 GtCO₂ per year.
Nine G20 members have not clarified the contribution of land-use removals (LULUCF) to their targets.
Only the United Kingdom has specified contributions from novel CDR, mainly through BECCS.
China’s forest stock target implies an additional 48 MtCO₂ of removals by 2030.
India projects it will exceed its forest and tree cover target by 2030.
The European Union is off track to meet its land-sink goal.
Japan, the Republic of Korea and Türkiye expect reductions in their current land-based removals.
Only the European Union, Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom meet all credibility criteria set in this analysis.
